My “bio” began very early. I grew up on my Fathers farm (even though farms had faded away, he insisted on creating his own with 10 kids and 6.5 acres of land). We could run and explore the grounds, ponds, plants, trees…everything was beautiful and alive with life. We could dissect anything we wanted (except large farm animals of course)!
Ironically, my Father, who never finished a traditional high school could build houses, and handle a farm with the greatest of finesse. Science was everywhere! That’s why the Bio page excites me so: everything is different and like life, our ability to learn more changes the face(s) of science and learning. My biggest regret is I feel I might miss some great scientific fact or discovery along the way.
My Father and Mother were my greatest teachers and biggest influences. A lot of the things my Father did had so many chemical implications and biophysical properties to them. At the moment I am fascinated by waves and nodes and why atoms move (or not) the way they do. Physics and Biology are two of my favorites as well. I am intrigued about the way fluids and ions move in and out of our bodies (cells) and why the rate changes and what affects those changes. Even though I had brain surgery, I never stopped reading! It’s fascinating to go to school and learn that a lot of my Father’s beliefs were old-fashioned but have now proven to be biologically correct. Biophysics is my major and I am a Junior transferring in the Spring of 2011. I plan to continue on with a Masters of Pharmaceutical Science or Clinical Toxicology. I would like to perhaps attend Medical School. I hope to have my research accepted by a mentor in the future.
