Antimicrobial peptides

The ever increasing of multi drug resistance in pathogenic bacteria and other other infectious micro organisms is one of the biggest problems in treating infectious diseases. There are lot of broad spectrum antimicrobials coming into the market and the rise of resistance to these antimicrobials and also irregular use of these antibiotics casuing great difficulty all over the world. Several researchers and pharmaceutical companies are working to find or develop a novel antimicrobial compound around the world. Antimicrobial peptides are bacteriocins which are produced from bacteria, and are active against other bacteria. There are several antimicrobial peptides; which are active against many drug resistant bacteria at very low concentrations like micro gram or nano gram range and there is very little or no resistance discovered until now against these antimicrobial peptides. Giving a great source of inspiration to find or develop a novel antimicrobial compound which is active against many emerging infectious, multi drug resistant, food poisoning and hospital infection causing pathogenic micro organisms.
