RNA Interference

Synthetic and Viral-based Systems for Gene Silencing

RNAi has emerged as an important mainstream tool for both basic and applied research, and it has revolutionized the novel discipline known as functional genomics.

This three-day workshop will provide hands-on technical training for both siRNA and lentiviral shRNA, experimental design, troubleshooting, and measuring knockdown effects. Featured lectures will provide in depth discussion on the fundamentals of RNAi as well as cutting edge applications for drug discovery and target validation. After mastering lentiviral technology, participants will have all of the tools needed to silence genes—not only in standard tumor cell lines, but also in primary cells and in non-dividing primary cells. Registrants should be familiar with basic mammalian cell culture techniques.

Accommodations

The city of St. Louis offers a variety of convenient transportation and accommodation options. Lambert St. Louis International Airport (STL) is connected to downtown St. Louis by a major interstate (I-70) as well as a convenient Metrolink system that directly connects the airport terminal to multiple downtown stops and locations. Once in St. Louis, we strongly recommend staying at the Hilton at the Ballpark. Sigma has negotiated a special low rate for all of the workshop participants. In addition, a free shuttle will take all participants from the Hilton each morning to the Sigma Life Science and High Technology Center and then return them at the end of each day. This allows participants to focus on the course and not worry about scheduling transportation.
